Time Out - 'Best Messiah So Far?'

Polyphony met the Age of Enlightenment; they said “Handel’s oratorio?”, the others said “Stephen Layton conducting “, the consequence was Emma Kirkby, Michael Chance, James Gilchrist and David Wilson-Johnson; and the world said “wow!”

Independent - 'Five Best Concerts in the South'

Of all the regular Christmas performances of Handel's great sacred oratorio, the one by Stephen Layton and his Polyphony choir is invariably the best. This year, they're joined by the period-instrument OAE and a starry solo line-up, led by Emma Kirkby.
